Google Ads Management Cost for UK Businesses in 2026

When a UK business hires someone to run Google Ads it pays two things: the ad spend that goes to Google and the management fee. This guide explains both, what a fair fee covers, the UK-specific rules and costs to plan for, and how to test an agency with a small pilot.

By the DND Teams editorial team · Updated

Google Ads is often the fastest way for a UK business to get enquiries: a plumber in Leeds or a solicitor in Manchester can appear at the top of search results the day a campaign goes live. It is also an easy way to lose money when the account has broad keywords, no conversion tracking and landing pages that do not match the search.

This guide explains what Google Ads management costs UK businesses in 2026, how the fees work, which UK rules and costs to plan for, and how to start without a long commitment. If you are weighing ads against organic search, see our UK SEO cost guide and SEO vs Google Ads.

Two separate costs: ad spend and management

  1. Ad spend is what you pay Google for clicks. It should be billed to your own payment method in a Google Ads account owned by your business.
  2. Management fee is what you pay an agency or freelancer to research, build, run and improve the campaigns.

Keeping them separate means you can see every charge from Google and you keep the account, its data and its history if you change agency.

UK costs to plan for on top of clicks

  • VAT. Check how VAT is shown on your Google Ads invoices; it depends on your billing country and whether you have added a VAT number.
  • Regulatory surcharge. Google adds a surcharge to the cost of ads shown in the UK to cover the UK Digital Services Tax. Check the current rate in Google's billing help before you set budgets.
  • Click prices. Competitive local services in London (legal, removals, emergency trades) usually cost more per click than the same search in a smaller town.

Common fee models

  • Flat monthly fee for an agreed scope. Easy to budget and does not reward higher spend.
  • Percentage of ad spend, usually with a minimum fee. Scales with larger accounts.
  • Hybrid: a flat minimum or a percentage, whichever is higher.
  • Setup fee for account build, tracking and landing-page work.

Be careful with "pay per lead" deals that do not define a lead, and with 12-month contracts that have no break clause.

What a fair management fee includes

  • Keyword research and account structure around what UK customers actually search, including local terms and negative keywords.
  • Conversion tracking for calls, forms and sales, set up with consent-aware tracking so it works alongside your cookie banner.
  • Ads and assets: headlines, descriptions, sitelinks, call and location assets.
  • Landing page advice, because a slow or generic page wastes clicks.
  • Ongoing optimisation: search term reviews, bids, budgets and ad testing.
  • Plain-English monthly reports with spend, conversions, cost per lead and next steps.

Our Google Ads and paid media packages

Our packages are quoted on your requirements and are priced in US dollars below typical UK agency retainers, because our team is based in India while we report and take calls on UK time.

Package Typical monthly fee Includes
Basic typically US$300–US$600 1 ad platform (Google or Meta), campaign set-up and management, conversion tracking, monthly report
Growth typically US$600–US$1,000 Google Ads + Meta Ads, campaign set-up and management, audience and creative testing, monthly report and review call
Premium typically US$1,000+ US$1,000 a month or 12% of ad spend, whichever is higher; multi-platform campaigns, ongoing optimisation, detailed reporting

Ad spend is paid by you directly to Google or Meta and is never marked up. Monthly plans have a 3-month minimum term. We can quote in GBP on request. See how our pricing works for what affects your quote.

UK rules for search ads

  • CAP Code and the ASA. UK advertising rules apply to paid search ads as well as display and social. Claims such as "cheapest" or "No.1" need evidence.
  • Financial services. Google requires advertisers of many financial products in the UK to be authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and verified by Google.
  • Restricted sectors. Healthcare, gambling, alcohol and legal services have extra Google policies and, in some cases, certification.
  • Cookies and consent. Under UK GDPR and PECR, non-essential tracking cookies need consent. Your tracking set-up should respect the cookie banner so your data is lawful and reliable.
  • Follow-up texts. If ad leads get SMS follow-up, PECR consent rules apply. See our UK SMS marketing compliance guide.

Red flags

  • The agency owns the Google Ads account or will not give you admin access.
  • No conversion tracking, or reports that show only clicks and impressions.
  • Ad spend paid through the agency with an undisclosed markup.
  • Guaranteed rankings or results, or long contracts with no exit terms.

Start with a pilot

A one-month pilot on one service and one area, with proper conversion tracking, tells you more than any sales call. Judge it on cost per enquiry, not on clicks.
