Next Date Update SMS Template for Law Firms & Advocates
A ready-to-adapt SMS message for law firms and advocates, with placeholders, sample values and compliance notes.
When to Send This Message
Send after a hearing to inform the next date. For law firms and advocates, this is one of the everyday messages that keeps clients informed without a phone call. It can be sent manually from a panel at first and automated later through an API.
People look for lawyers when they face a specific problem, and they want clear information and a prompt, discreet response.
The SMS Template
India (DLT format)
Dear {#var#}, in matter {#var#} the next date of hearing is {#var#}. We will share a brief update by email. - [Business Name]International (plain text)
Dear {client}, in matter {case_ref} the next date of hearing is {date}. We will share a brief update by email. - [Business Name]Example with sample values
Dear Mr. Saxena, in matter CS 112/2026 the next date of hearing is 20 Nov. We will share a brief update by email. - [Business Name]
With these sample values the message is 133 characters in the standard GSM-7 character set, which is 1 SMS part (square brackets count as two characters each). Long links or local-language (Unicode) text increase the count, as Unicode SMS allow 70 characters per single part.
Replace [Business Name] with your registered brand name. Links shown use example.com as a placeholder; use your own domain.
Placeholders and Sample Values
| Placeholder | Meaning | Sample value |
|---|---|---|
| {#var#} | Client | Mr. Saxena |
| {#var#} | Case ref | CS 112/2026 |
| {#var#} | Date | 20 Nov |
Filling in each placeholder
- Client (sample: Mr. Saxena): Use the first name or the salutation the customer gave you; fall back to a neutral greeting if the field is empty.
- Case ref (sample: CS 112/2026): Use the same reference format that appears on your invoices, receipts or software, so customers and staff can match it quickly.
- Date (sample: 20 Nov): Write dates in an unambiguous form such as 14 Oct or 14 Oct 2026; avoid formats like 10/11 that customers read differently.
This template has 3 placeholders and a body of 128 characters before values are filled in. Shorter messages cost less and are more likely to be read in full; aim to keep the filled-in message within one or two SMS parts.

Rules to keep in mind for Law Firms & Advocates
Bar Council of India Rule 36 prohibits advocates from soliciting work or advertising, although websites with factual information (name, contact, enrolment, areas of practice) are permitted. We therefore focus on informational websites and client-service messages, not promotional campaigns.
General guidance, not legal advice. Rules change, so confirm current requirements before launch. See our SMS compliance guide for India.
Tips for Better Results
- Send it as close as possible to the event it relates to, such as right after booking or the day before an appointment.
- Keep one purpose per message; if you need to send a reminder and a document, the reminder should still make sense on its own.
Where this message fits for Law Firms & Advocates

Trust, expertise and clarity about fees decide who they choose.
