Social Media Management in Singapore: What It Costs and How to Get Results

Singapore consumers are among the most active social media users in the region. Here is how businesses can turn that attention into customers, and what to expect from a social media partner.

By the DND Teams editorial team · Updated

In Singapore, social media is part of how people discover restaurants, compare products, follow brands and decide where to spend. Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn and Xiaohongshu all play roles, depending on the audience. For small and medium businesses, managing these channels consistently takes time and skills that many teams lack, which is why many outsource to agencies or freelancers.

This guide explains what social media management includes, what drives cost, starting prices in SGD, the rules that apply in Singapore and how to measure results.

What social media management includes

  • Strategy: audience, goals, platforms and content pillars
  • Content calendar: monthly plan aligned with promotions, launches and festive periods
  • Content creation: graphics, carousels, short videos, captions and hashtags
  • Publishing: scheduling at the right times
  • Community management: replying to comments and messages
  • Reporting: reach, engagement, clicks, enquiries and sales

Often priced separately:

  • Paid social advertising management, with ad spend paid to the platforms
  • Photography and video production
  • Influencer and creator campaigns
  • Multilingual content

Choosing platforms in Singapore

  • Instagram: F&B, retail, beauty, fitness, lifestyle and property
  • TikTok: discovery, entertainment and increasingly product search, especially among younger users
  • Facebook: broad adult audiences, community groups and events
  • YouTube: reviews, tutorials and longer content
  • LinkedIn: B2B, professional services, finance and recruitment
  • Xiaohongshu (RED): useful for reaching some Mandarin-speaking audiences, particularly for lifestyle, beauty and F&B
  • Telegram and WhatsApp: community channels and direct communication

Choose two or three platforms where your customers spend time, and do them well.

What drives the price?

  • Number of platforms and posts per month
  • Video content, which takes more time
  • Original photography and shoots
  • Community management hours
  • Paid ads management
  • Languages: English, Chinese, Malay, Tamil
  • Regulated sectors such as healthcare, finance and property, which need more care

Rules that apply in Singapore

The Singapore Code of Advertising Practice

The Advertising Standards Authority of Singapore (ASAS) administers the Singapore Code of Advertising Practice, which expects advertising, including social media content, to be legal, decent, honest and truthful. ASAS has also published guidelines on interactive marketing communication and social media, which expect paid or sponsored content to be clearly disclosed.

Influencer disclosure

When you pay or gift creators to promote your business, make sure posts clearly disclose the commercial relationship, for example with labels such as "Sponsored" or "Ad", or platform paid-partnership tools. Brands should require disclosure in their agreements.

Consumer protection

The Consumer Protection (Fair Trading) Act prohibits unfair practices, including misleading claims. Never post fake reviews or testimonials, and make sure promotions and prices are accurate.

Sector rules

Healthcare providers must follow advertising requirements under the Healthcare Services Act and Ministry of Health guidance, which restrict testimonials and certain claims. Financial services follow MAS rules. Property agents follow CEA advertising guidelines.

Data protection

Lead forms, contests and direct messages that collect personal data must follow the PDPA. Explain how data will be used, obtain consent and secure it. Marketing messages to Singapore phone numbers may also be subject to the Do Not Call provisions.

Content that works in Singapore

  • Short videos showing products, food and services in action
  • Behind-the-scenes and team introductions
  • Local references and Singlish humour, used naturally and appropriately
  • Festive content for Chinese New Year, Hari Raya Puasa, Deepavali, Christmas and National Day
  • Helpful tips and how-tos
  • User-generated content shared with permission

Respect Singapore's multiracial and multireligious society. Avoid content that could cause offence on racial or religious grounds.

Measuring results

  • Enquiries: WhatsApp chats, calls, bookings and forms from social
  • Website traffic and sales, tracked with UTM parameters and pixels with appropriate consent
  • Engagement quality: saves, shares and comments
  • Reach among your target audience
  • Cost per lead or sale for paid campaigns

Follower counts are secondary.

Agency, freelancer or in-house?

An in-house team member captures everyday moments and knows the business well. Freelancers are cost-effective for specific skills such as video editing. Agencies bring a team with strategy, design, copy, video and ads skills. Many Singapore SMEs combine an in-house content capturer with an agency.

Questions to ask before hiring

  1. Who creates the content, and is it original?
  2. How many posts, on which platforms, in which formats?
  3. Who replies to comments and messages, and how quickly?
  4. Is ad spend separate?
  5. Will we own our accounts, content and ad accounts?
  6. How will you report results?
  7. Do you understand ASAS guidelines and sector rules for our industry?

Red flags

  • Promises of follower numbers
  • Recycled template content
  • Agencies owning your page or ad account
  • No mention of disclosure rules
  • Reports with no link to enquiries or sales

A sample month for a Singapore café

On the Growth package, a café might publish four short videos (signature drinks, a new seasonal cake, the barista at work and a weekend crowd moment), four carousels (menu highlights, a festive promotion, the story behind the café and a "what to order" guide) and four single posts (opening hours for public holidays, a customer favourite shared with permission, a collaboration with a nearby business and a WhatsApp pre-order reminder). Stories show daily specials and sold-out items. Comments and messages are answered daily, and the monthly report shows reach, profile visits, WhatsApp enquiries and redemption of a social-only offer.

Paid social on a small budget

Organic reach is limited, so a modest ad budget can multiply results. Boost posts that already perform well, use lead or message objectives rather than likes, target by location and interest, and refresh creative often because Singapore audiences are small and see ads repeatedly. Click-to-WhatsApp ads work well for businesses that sell or book through chat.

Handling negative comments

Reply calmly and quickly, acknowledge concerns, move personal details to private messages and follow up until resolved. Hide or report spam and abusive comments in line with platform rules, but do not delete legitimate criticism.

Contracts and ownership

Read the contract for minimum terms, notice periods, ownership of content created and what happens to your accounts if you leave. Make sure ad spend is charged to your own payment method or clearly itemised. Keep admin access to every account yourself.

Multilingual content

English works for most Singapore audiences, but Chinese, Malay or Tamil content can deepen engagement with specific communities. Use fluent writers rather than machine translation, and keep brand tone consistent across languages.

Planning around Singapore's calendar

Plan content early for the Great Singapore Sale, 11.11 and 12.12 shopping events, school holidays and major festivals, so creative is ready and approved on time.
